Want to know what your child, sibling, or spouse does on your PC while you are away? You have a business and you want to know what your employees are doing on the PC during office hours? If the answers to both questions are affirmative, then you need the functionality that Gecko Monitor has to offer. This powerful tool that can be set to run stealthily in the background will tell you what applications a user runs, what websites the user visits, what files the user downloads, and more.

Gecko Monitor provides support for Windows 7, Windows Vista, Windows XP, and Windows 2000. Download a 6.6Mb archive, extract its contents, run install_gecko.exe, follow the on-screen instructions presented by a setup wizard, and moments later you will have Gecko Monitor up and ready for use. The first time you run the application you will be invited to pick a password and you will be informed that Gecko Monitor starts in hidden move by default. The default hotkey for bringing Gecko Monitor out of hiding is Ctrl+Alt+F12.

There are several tabs at the top on Gecko Monitor’s interface. The Home one displays an overview of the application: how many screenshots were taken, how many applications are monitored, the total number of events recorded, if Gecko Monitor is currently monitoring the system, and more. Click though the tabs at the top on the application’s interface to view all the screenshots it took, all the keystrokes it recorded, all the applications it monitored, and more.

By default, Gecko Monitor loads at startup and runs hidden in the background. The only thing to give it away is the icon in the system tray – but from the Settings menu you can set it up so the icon will be hidden away as well. While Gecko Monitor runs, it does the following: takes screenshots at specific intervals of time; it records keystrokes; it monitors the websites accessed by the user; it monitors the applications the user launches; it monitors the printer and the clipboard; it keeps track of all the files the user accesses.

All the information that Gecko Monitor gathers is nicely displayed on a timeline. Moreover, all the information can be saved as a report; and you can also set it up so Gecko Monitor will automatically send logs to you via email.

Gecko Monitor is only free to try: the trial version will run for no longer than 2 hours.

This efficient tool will run stealthily in the background and monitor everything the user does. It comes in handy when you want to see what others do on the PC – siblings, spouses, friends, employees.

Pros

Gecko Monitor’s good looking interface is easy to figure out. The application will run stealthily in the background. Set it up so Gecko Monitor sends out reports via email. Access to Gecko Monitor is password protected. The application installs and uninstalls cleanly.

Cons

Free to use for a period of 2 hours.
